Bilingual Peer Advocate (Spanish/English)

 

Community United Against Violence (CUAV) is a San Francisco, CA-based organization working to build LGBTQI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex) power to create safety in our lives and communities. CUAV seeks an experienced person to serve as a full-time Bilingual Peer Advocate to support the self-determination of LGBTQI survivors of violence through 1:1 peer advocacy counseling and support groups, provide support with other service provider agencies, and participate in trainings as needed.

 

STATUS:

●      This is a full-time, 40-hrs per week, position.

●      This position will be paid an annual salary of $55,000 and receive full benefits.

●      Reports to: Co-Executive Director

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

●      Provide advocacy-based counseling to LGBTQI survivors of violence

●      Support curriculum development

●      Co-facilitate support groups for LGBTQI people surviving violence

●      Coordinate healthy meals for participant and member activities.

●      Conduct outreach and in-services to recruit new participants

●      Conduct workshops and trainings for community partners

●      Prepare and distribute educational and outreach materials

●      Cultivate and maintain relationships with service providers and ally organizations

●      Complete relevant documentation and reporting of program activities

●      Attend staff meetings, program team meetings, and relevant trainings

●      Demonstrate an ability to practice non-shaming and to sit with feelings in facilitation, counseling, and staff interactions.

●      Actively engage in personal and political development to better support organizational mission

●      Additional duties, as needed

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

●      Bilingual in Spanish and English

●      Two or more years of experience in peer counseling, advocacy-based counseling, case management, or support group facilitation

●      Committed to open, direct, and non-violent communication

●      Knowledge of and experience working with diverse LGBTQ communities, particularly low-income, immigrant, communities of color, and people of various ages

●      Highly organized, detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to multi-task and problem-solve to meet competing deadlines

●      Flexible schedule with the ability to work some evenings and weekends when necessary

●      Deeply committed to providing services from a harm reduction, social justice, and community organizing framework

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

●      Experience with training and facilitation, particularly popular education.

●      Experience in social change community engagement work

●      Experience working in a multi-racial, multi-gender, intergenerational organization.

●      Personal experience with or extensive knowledge of issues affecting Black and Latinx survivors of violence

●      Know your way around Google apps, Salesforce database, Apple computers, and Microsoft Office.
